What Will Happen On My First Visit?

Your first session may be longerthan other sessions.

I need to assess your general state of health, in order to identify the underlying pattern of 
disharmony and give you the most effective treatment. 


You will be asked about your current symptoms and what treatment you have received so far, your medical history and that of your close family, your diet, digestive system, sleeping patterns and emotional state. To discover how the energies are flowing in your body, I am likely to feel your pulses on both wrists, noting their quality, rhythm and strength.


The structure, colour and coating of your tongue also gives a good guide to your physical health. Once enough information has been gathered to determine the likely causes of your problems, I then can select the most appropriate treatment.


The aim is to discover which energy channels need adjusting for your specific complaint to improve, and which require treatment to boost your overall energy and vitality.
Loose, comfortable clothing should be worn, and you should be aware that I may need to access points on your stomach and back as well as on arms and legs. 


There are around 500 such acupuncture points on the body, and I will probably use a selection of perhaps eight or ten of these for each treatment. I may supplement the needle treatment with moxa, a smouldering herb which is used to warm acupuncture points to encourage the body’s energy to flow  smoothly.

I can also use ear acupuncture with magnets and seeds. As well as electro-acupuncture.

Short History of Acupuncture

The Chinese and other Eastern peoples have been using acupuncture to restore, promote and maintain good health for about 2,500 years. Stone needles were originally used, and later bronze, gold and silver needles. Acupuncture is rooted in the Daoist philosophy of change, growth, balance and harmony. Amazingly, these records also contain details of pathology and physiology which provide the theoretical foundation for acupuncture today, some 2000 years later. Today acupuncture is used far more extensively in China than in the West, in a hospital-based system with facilities for treating emergency as well as long term cases.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall wellbeing of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy – known as Qi – moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin.  Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities – Yin and Yang. – when the balance is upset, illness results.
Acupuncture restores the proper balance and flow of the Qi, returning health to the body. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body’s own healing response and help restore its natural balance. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and traumas. The skill of an acupuncturist lies in the ability to make a diagnosis from what is often a complex pattern of disharmony. The exact pattern and degree of disharmony is unique to each individual and with traditional acupuncture will be treated as such with a personalised treatment plan.

The principal aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the equilibrium between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.

Acupuncture is more than just inserting tiny needles into your body.  It is a complex but complete system

Getting rid of things that doesn’t server us any more…decluttering inside and out.

I seem to go through this in circles as soon as I have a little more energy, time to shed stuff. Sometimes it is little things like clothes and shoes, sometimes huge things like houses, husbands and countries. All is relative to the ‘letting go of the old’ process.

Many times it is a joyous thing….to exhale and let go. Other times it is more of a stuttering breath that is part relief, part pain. We can rip off the plaster fast or peel it off slowly, it is still coming off.
